Mikulov and Pálava

for groups

A characteristic and visible landscape attraction of the Mikulov sub-region is the limestone massif of Pálava hills with the ruins of former medieval castles. This area of land, with a mountain ridge rising from the Pannonian plain, resembling the back of some ancient animal, has attracted whole groups of people for a long time. The Venus of Věstonice - the oldest ceramic figurine in the world - was found here - the most famous artifact of the culture of mammoth hunters, who used the wealth of this land already 25,000 years ago. When we look at the Pálava hills, we must also remember the Roman legionnaires guarding the limes romanes, who, looking at the sunny slope of these mountains, far from their country, immediately planted the first vineyards north of the Danube river here. This means that by interacting with them we are at the very beginning of the history of winemaking in Moravia.

The Pálava Landscape Reserve is a limestone ridge rising from the Pannonian Plain near the border with Austria. It abounds in natural beauty and a unique southern ecosystem.

Mikulov – The natural center of this wine sub-region is the town of Mikulov right on the border of the Czech Republic. A baroque castle, a calvary leading to the unusual, picturesque and at the same time photogenic Saint Hill and the old town with lots of Jewish monuments.

We will get to one of the many excellent vineyards, where we will taste local, by wine experts highly valued wines, aromatic wines of the varieties Pálava and Welsch Riesling and Riesling.

There are many vine-growing villages on the slopes of the Pálava Hills - for example, Pavlov under the ruins of the Maiden's Castle with the Archeopark - an exhibition that allows you to get to know the ancient mammoth hunters. Here we will walk through a street with wine cellars typical of the region, where we will taste wines from the local winemaker. Then we will move to the beautiful villages of Dolní Dunajovice and Bavory, where local winemakers will open their wine cellars to us. Tasting of local wines with a winemaker's lecture.
